For customers new to Silkå¨ Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative, Peach & Mango isn't perfect, but has a few surprises for those accustomed to eating milk-based yogurts. In lieu of showcasing predictable photos of someone eating this soy-based yogurt product, I will instead be first reviewing the often neglected nutritional content and comparing it with Dannonå¨ Activia.

First of all, you‰€™ll notice that the ingredients list is shorter because there are no dairy components whatsoever and only one type of sugar‰€"cane sugar‰€"a uniquely rare form of minimally processed sugar in modern America‰€™s sea of over-processed food products. By comparison, Activia typically relies on both regular cane sugar as well as fructose and often additional artificial sweeteners such as carrageenan, acesulfame potassium, and sucralose.

Being that soymilk does not naturally contain probiotic cultures inherent in dairy-based yogurts, live and active cultures have been added to Silk DFYA, though the packaging does not disclose which ones. You‰€™ll also notice that there‰€™s a bit of sea salt mixed in, which is a refreshing change from the artificial sodium compounds used to regulate acidity in milk-based yogurts like Activia.
Another big draw is Silk DFYA‰€™s 6 g of protein per 150 g, which trumps Activia‰€™s 4 g of protein per serving size of 113 g. (However, Activia‰€™s Greek Yogurt lines boasts 12 g of protein for the same serving size of 150 g.)

And now for the taste test: after tasting both the Activia and Silk versions of Peach/Mango my overall verdict rules in favor of Silk DFYA Peach & Mango. Activia scores more points for having more substantial pieces of real fruit and a more pronounced fruit flavor in the yogurt base, but Silk DFYA Peach & Mango wins in terms of texture, palatability, and low acidity. The first smooth spoonful of Silk DFYA reminded me of velvety pudding I once had a friend‰€™s Christmas party, except only slightly sweet with neither saccharine nor sour aftertaste. After finishing the entire cup, I felt like I had just been served a high quality dessert at a wedding reception. My only complaint is that what few pieces of peach or manga were mixed in were too small to be seen or tasted.

All in all, Silkå¨ Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative Peach & Mango, with or without the peach & mango, is a luxurious alternative to yogurt that probably belongs in the dessert aisle rather than the yogurt section of the supermarket. It‰€™s worth a try, and in my opinion good enough to be served for a special occasion.

I recently have a become a big fan of the Silk brand. I switched from drinking dairy milk in favor of Silk unsweetened vanilla almond milk and have no regrets. So when I was given the opportunity to try out new Silk dairy-free yogurt as a promotional trial through BzzAgent I jumped at the chance. Typically I enjoy peach flavored regular yogurt so the peach/mango flavor was the closest thing I could get.
From the get-go, I was a little disappointed in the packaging. This is an entirely different kind of product and should have a package that distinguishes it from everything else. But apart from the very distinct branding of the Silk name, it used the same typical white plastic cup with a brightly colored foil lid that every other yogurt manufacturer uses. It wasn't a bad design, it just seemed like a missed opportunity. Despite what I know about the Silk brand (the "S" from soy standing in for the "M" in milk, I was also a bit let down to learn that this is in fact a Soy based product, rather than an almond based yogurt. Another missed opportunity there.
Now, I don't consider myself a foodie by any stretch of the imagination, and typically I'm not very picky when it comes to food, so all in all the flavor wasn't half-bad. That being said , I have no medical need for a lactose free yogurt, so if I had the choice between this and my favorite Activia, I would go for the Activia 99% of the time. But if I found that my wife had purchased this again, I would eat it.
I enjoy the Silk brand Almond milk over regular milk for a number of reasons. First of all it simply tastes better. Secondly, its has a pleasant texture. And third, I feel like i'm doing something good for my body by not drinking regular 2% dairy milk. I had hoped to get these same benefits from the Silk dairy free yogurt, but was again disappointed. Although it doesn't taste bad, it certainly doesn't taste better than my regular yogurt and the flavor is accompanied with an unsettling aftertaste which may not be disgusting, but simply shouldn't be there IMO. It also comes with an interesting texture that would likely take some time to get used to. I also don't feel that substituting my dairy based yogurt with a soy based product does anything to necessarily enhance my sense of healthy living.
While appreciate the fact that this product exists for those who may be lactose intolerant, its not for me and certainly doesn't qualify as a substitute for real yogurt. Im not sure if its even possible, but if Silk were to produce a line of dairy free yogurt using an Almond base Id probably be interested.

I really liked this yogurt! I tried the strawberry and the vanilla. There is a very slightly different taste but I had no problem with it since it's dairy-free.

Vegan?

Comments about Peach & Mango Soy Dairy-Free Yogurt Alternative:

My kids and I absolutely love Vanilla the most, then after that would be Peach & Mango. My question is, are they vegan? Yes it clearly states vegetarian, but if it were vegan, it'd clearly state that as well, right?...

Who would not like it? It is vegan at the same time it is gluten and dairy free. It is a one of most rich, creamy, and delicious yogurt that don't involve milk that I have ever taste.

I was pleasantly surprised how this tasted. I enjoyed the taste very much and so did my daughter. I have it 4 stars because it did leave a funny after taste in my mouth but it may just be that I'm not used to it.
