We use it to replace milk in cereal, coffee, smoothies and some cooking. We started to use almond milk but found that there was not enough protein in it to keep us going. Our son is allergic to nuts and it didn't make sense to buy two products. Regarding sugar content, even cow's milk has anywhere between 1 & 2 teaspoons of sugar that occurs naturally. So the amounts in a cup of this version of Silk is not going to put me into a tailspin.

I bought this for my one year old who has dairy allergies. She had an allergic reaction to this soy milk -- stomach cramps, gassy, screaming, frequent night wakings. She is not allergic to soy as she has NONE of these symptoms with Organic Valley Soy Milk. We did a test and a retest with the same result. My conclusion is that there is possible cross contamination of dairy with this product.

My basis to not recommend this product is solely as described above.

Way better tasting than rice milk!!

By

from Portland, OR

Comments about Silk Original Soymilk:

I just found out I have Dairy and Gluten allergies. I'm 45 and love my milk, cheese, ice cream, you name it. Thought my diagnosis was the end of the world. Bought 4 different items including rice and soya milk. I have to say that for cereal, coffee and just drinking with anything, the plain original soy milk is my favorite and seems to taste closest to real milk. I feel like you can taste the sweetness a little more than real milk even though it has less. But if you are allergic to dairy as I am, you don't have a choice. This is the best.

Comments about Silk Original Soymilk:

This is an awesome replacer of dairy milk which isn't good for our digestive system and can cause internal problems later in life.

I love it, but I wish there was a less sweet option

By

from Worcester, MA

Comments about Silk Original Soymilk:

I love this soymilk and I drink it all the time in vegan protein shakes, with cereal, with cookies, and I use it in cooking things like vegan mac n cheeze. My biggest complaint is that I wish there was a less sweetened option available to use for cooking. The vanilla version is like candy to me and the original isn't bad, but it is still quite sweet and and sugar is the second ingredient listed with 6 g of sugar per serving. Its not totally a deal breaker for me because its still the best soymilk out there, but it would be a lot healthier and more versatile as a product if there was a less sugary option!

Best Non-Dairy on the Market!!!

By

from Toronto, Canada

Comments about Silk Original Soymilk:

We've been buying Silk Soymilk and other Silk products for years... we occasionally purchase the other brands, but we like to stick to Silk because of the attention to detail that the company puts into its products. One example is, when my wife was pregnant, I wanted to know if various drinks were pasteurized or not. Silk did not have the info. on their packaging, but they did have it on their website under FAQs. The other brands? I had to use a telephone to call them! I might as well have written a letter...

Another customer mentioned the presence of sugar in their soymilk... that is true, but they do offer unsweetened varieties. And hey, even this variety which is sweetened has half the sugar of cow's milk. Half!

I will be loyal to Silk and all their varieties of non-dairy (bust mostly soy) for the foreseeable future.

A little sugar is not a problem

By

from Bend, OR

Comments about Silk Original Soymilk:

We now use Silk soy milk for almost every thing that requires dairy. The small amount of sugar added to the product is needed by the brain anyway, and it certainly doesn't throw off our health conscious approach towards eating.

Comments about Silk Original Soymilk:

I'm so glad Silk has phased out unhealthy carrageenan from its milks. Very few competitors have heeded the science behind this harmful ingredients. Thanks Silk.

beyond surprised!

By

from Hawkins tx

Comments about Silk Original Soymilk:

After my toddler ended up with a terrible body odor when he sweats at night. To a week of puking after every milk bottle I decided to quit cows milk and try silk. Since then he smells really good and no puking anymore. But not only has it changed his inner health, it has shockingly made me so happy. After one tiny taste before my son tried it I have craved it ever since. Basic dairy products make me so fat. But soy is light weight, healthy. And it so much better for you than cows milk.
